[Corrected!] Sunday, April 22nd, is Earth Day. Designating a day focused on environmental concerns and causes, such as clean air, was proposed by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin. His idea took hold and continues to this day. Cartoonist Walt Kelly designed his famous poster (above) for the first Earth Day. If Kelly were still around, he wouldn't have to make many changes to update his poster for 2012.
