A BLOG ABOUT SOUTHWESTERN WEATHER, Welcome to the MadWeather Blog! We have two basic rules for this blog:
WEATHER FORECASTING & OBSERVING, AND OTHER RELATED TOPICS
(1) Debate and discussion should be civil.
(2) Because public discussion, regardless of the topic,
is not very effective if we don't know who is talking to whom,
MadWeather does not accept anonymous posts.

ECMWF VS GFS At 168-Hours
Yet again the two models have dramatically different forecasts for the Southwest - both from 12 UTC this morning and valid at 168-hours (12 UTC on Friday the 30th). The ECMWF (above) forecasts a strong closed low over Arizona/Utah, while the GFS (below) has weaker, short-waves over Texas Panhandle and west of Salt Lake. The height differences in the forecasts are almost 200 m over central Arizona.
