Apparently the Pennsylvania groundhog (Phil) saw his shadow, and predicts six more weeks of winter back there. The GEFS 500 mb average forecast certainly agrees for the next week or so (above forecast valid at 00 UTC on February 9th). So Bill Murray continues to be stuck in this frigid mess.
As for the Southwest - almost no winter continues for the coming week as the massive, blocking ridge dominates the synoptic pattern along the West Coast.
