Skies over much of Arizona have been hazy looking yesterday and this morning (above) due to elevated smoke from a wildfire burning in California east of Riverside - the Apple fire. Mike Luethold's post yesterday has a nice satellite image of the smoke plume from this fire. Image below is view of fire from Cabazon, California, on Saturday evening.
Things locally continue little changed, with most storm activity to our east and south. There were a several reports of amounts greater than half an inch yesterday: Sonoita 0.79"; Nogales 0.77"; Ramsay Canyon 0.66"; and Benson 0.51".
This morning's sounding from TWC (above) continues with considerable CAPE, but with mixing up to 600 mb required to reach the LFC - not likely to happen without a strong outflow. The wind profile is chopped up and light and variable up to 200 mb - what a mess.
Forecasts from the 12 UTC WRF-RR and WRF-NAM below do indicate isolated storms into parts of eastern Pima County this afternoon. Both forecasts are valid at 5:00 pm this afternoon. Time will tell.
