April Ends on Cool Note

In fact April was a cool, dry, windy, and often dusty month here in southeast Arizona. Here at house rainfall amounted to only 0.10" and the coldest morning low was 24F - probably on the morning of the 2nd but I don't know for certain. I also dont't know how many mornings had lows below 40F - we were away on travel 11 days during the month. To contrast with last April - precip then was 0.44" occurring, just like this year, with a single weather system; however, the lowest low in April 2009 was only 32F on the 5th. This morning's low for May 1st here at house was 33F! I note that last year I had to make the switch from heating to cooling systems on May 3rd - may make it a bit longer this year. The Tucson NWS notes the following for the official observations at the Tucson airport ASOS site:

Coolest April since 1999
Below normal rainfall at the airport
Tucson has yet to hit 90 degrees in 2010

El NiƱo continued its influence on the weather for Tucson during April which resulted in the first April since 2003 (65.7°) to have the average monthly temperature being below normal. This was also the coolest April since 1999 (62.3°). Rainfall was generally below normal across the metro area..
