Severe Thunderstorms Lower Colorado River Basin
Thunderstorm activity today, after the fast-hitting early morning storms in TUS area, has been mostly off to the west, as predicted by the early WRF-GFS (which had forecast early activity also, but was off in the timing by 4 or 5 hours). The 01 UTC IR satellite image (above) shows a large MCS out in southwestern Arizona. The composite radar image from KYUX (below) shows a number of strong storms along the lower Colorado River. Yuma has had a spit of rain, along with dust and wind gusts to 64 mph, which indicates lots of high winds probably occurred across the desolate stretches of southwestern Arizona and northwestern Sonora.
