Very Moist Again

Have been busy with other things and haven't been able to post much. The storm that hit here at house yesterday with 0.66" of rain was quite a small cell (house is under the "D" in Wetmore RD). The ALERT sector above shows that most sites here in north part of metro had little rain yesterday. At 5 pm yesterday afternoon only 24 ALERT sites had measured rainfall. However, light showers during the night have brought that number up to 54 at 6 am this morning. Heaviest amounts were in and near the Catalinas, with two sites reporting just over an inch.

At sunrise this morning there are light showers continuing over parts of southeast Arizona and skies are heavily overcast, as view of Catalinas shows below.

Morning TUS sounding (above) has PW back up over 1.60 inches - showing an important role of moisture recycling from yesterday's storms. There is some CAPE and good southeasterly steering winds. However, the dilemma for the day will be sunshine and surface heating - how much will there be? Only the early WRF-NAM forecast model has the morning clouds and shower activity forecast. This version of the model keeps things mostly suppressed during the day today, due to clouds and limited heating. So, a good day to keep an eye on the morning model forecasts and also on the skies.
