Typhoon Haiyan

Edited Wednesday am to add: Infrared image of Haiyan at 1130 UTC this morning. The Super Typhoon has winds estimated at 175 kts (just over 200 mph) and is expected to intensify a bit more before it strikes the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan has developed over the west Pacific - see above IR image from 06 UTC this morning. The latest forecast (from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center in Hawaii) is shown below. Haiyan is forecast to become a super typhoon with wind speeds reaching 150 kts. The forecast track takes it across the central Philippines at the end of the week, so it could become a storm with very serious impacts.
