Downburst Of Saturday August 8th And Other Photos

Photo above is from a video by photographer, and storm chaser, Bryan Snider and shows a wet downburst off the west end of the Catalina Mountains. The video shows several zooms of this intense downburst. I saw it from a distance and was frankly amazed that there were no reports of severe winds for this event - I am fairly certain that winds over 50 kt must have occurred when the blob of precip hit the ground. Bryan's video is at:

Photo below is by Art Rangno taken from Catalina looking south at 4:15 pm MST - Bryan's and Art's cameras must have been pointing almost right at each other. The downburst occurred a bit after Art's photo.

Also on August 8th -

These three shots are from Santa Rita Abbey looking west toward the mountains. The Santa Ritas were draped in scud and stratus at sunrise but by around noon towers were building on the mountains.

Photo at bottom is looking south from the Abbey guesthouse and shows the wonderful, Wisconsin-like greenness of the beautiful countryside east of the mountains after 7.36 inches of rain in late June and July (elevation a bit below 5000 ft MSL).
