More On Nate

Nate is a very large, but not well-organized tropical storm this morning - as seen in visible satellite image (above) from 1415 UTC this morning. The early morning forecast from NHC - just below - indicates the storm will move rapidly northward across the Gulf of Mexico and approach the Louisiana/Mississippi coasts by early morning on Sunday. The NHC continues to forecast that Nate will briefly become a hurricane before coming onshore. Bottom graphic shows the 06 UTC operational GFS forecast for 850 mb - valid at 06 UTC early Sunday. Note that a hurricane watch is in effect for the New Orleans area.
