Quick Update On Winds


The 06 UTC WRF runs at Atmo are little changed from yesterday except for being a bit stronger from the east (see previous post). The forecast above is from NAM version on 5.4 km grid and is valid at 2:00 am MST tonight (color bar same as below). Models forecast the first very strong Santa Ana event of the late fall/early winter season - fire weather conditions will be extreme over parts of southern California during next 24 hours or so.

Here in southeast Arizona the models forecast strongest east winds from late tomorrow into Saturday morning - forecast below from GFS version of WRF valid at 9:00 pm tomorrow. The invading layer of easterlies remains fairly shallow, as they veer in forecast soundings to south to southwesterly below 700 mb.
