Shown above are the NHC products from this morning (Wednesday Jun 8th) for TS Adrian (current position top and forecast bottom). Adrian is the first named TS of the season, and in the eastern Pacific, which is forecast by NHC to have a slower than usual season this year. Back on Sunday (below) when I posted an image of the tropical low that is now named Adrian, it was located near 11.0 degrees N and 97.5 degrees W. The middle image above indicates that at 1345 UTC this morning Adrian is near 13 degrees N and 101 degrees W - NHC indicates that winds are around 60 kt, i.e., close to hurricane strength 12-hours after it was named last evening. The storm has been moving slowly toward the west-northwest, but has now turned more to the north, prompting a newly issued Tropical Storm watch along the southwestern Mexican coast. In the very long term, the operational GFS moves Adrian toward the south end of Baja, but it should be noted that the operational member appears to be a significant outlier relative to rest of the GFS ensemble members and the ECMWF. Still, some weather of interest finally.
