Yesterday's Thunderstorms - Part 1 Severe Storms
Photo above is from the webcam at Atmo early yesterday afternoon (12 August) and view is toward the east end of the Catalinas (thanks to Mike Leuthold). Lightning CG flashes were again very active and location plot below is for 24-hours ending at midnight last night - note that "quiet" area shifted to west-central Arizona, which had been very active on Monday.
Yesterday's weather system was very active from northern mexico across all of the West. The CG flash plot above (again ending at midnight last night) shows this well. There were an unusually large number of severe thunderstorm reports recorded at SPC for the West yesterday - see below. Most of these were for thunderstorms with severe wind gusts (=/> 50 kts).
