GPS PW Time Series

The GPS time series of PW estimates at the U of A (above) shows a nice increase after the morning sounding. Values have reached over 30 mm. Below is the El Paso 12 UTC sounding. It illustrates how, on occasion, high values of low-level moisture can advect in from the east. The air mass at El Paso was moist up to about 650 mb (well above 10,000 ft MSL), and there were east winds of 20 to 30 kts at and below 700 mb. Although the Continental Divide lies between here and El Paso (located about 30 miles west of Deming along I-10 - see photo at bottom), its elevation is only 4585 ft MSL. So there is a deep layer of moist air coming our way across the Divide this morning.
