Big Dry-Out in Tucson Area is Over

Photo taken last evening (Tuesday 4 August 2009) from house looking southeast at a shower that is over the eastern part of town around Kolb and Golf Links. Most storms stayed over higher elevations and the most intense storms split around the core of the Tucson downtown. After dark there were nice lightning displays north of the Catalinas and also to south and northwest. Rain was measured, although amounts were light, at 34 of the 93 Pima County ALERT gauges. So, the long, totally dry spell has ended.
Although, as post below notes, other parts of south-central Arizona have yet to have significant rains at all this summer. Here at the house we had rumbling thunder several times during the late evening and a nice sweet smell of rain - but not a drop nor a trace of precipitaion. So the local dry spell here at house continues with no rain since the 0.44" that occurred on the 22nd of July.
