Finally, a worthy report from up North. A "peaceful, easy feeling" now resides over the city of Phoenix with continued drizzle from a rather active night. Around 10 pm, outflow boundaries from southern storms produced areas of blowing dust at Sky Harbor reducing visibility to 1 mile. Wind gusts were reported at 23 kts. Converging outflow boundaries from notheastern and southern storms generated thunderstorms over the metro area producing spectacular lightning and much needed rainfall. Most of the rain gages at the Flood Control District of Maricopa County measured precipitation. The heaviest hit areas were along the I-10 corridor and south of the city. Gila Bend recorded 0.79 inches of rain with 0.48 inches falling between 0252 and 0322. Nearby Waterman's Wash recorded 0.75 inches with 0.39 inches falling between 0407 and 0422. Near Jefferson Street and 4th Ave, flooding was reported due to 0.83 inches of rainfall. The highest observed rainfall amount was recorded near the base of South Mountain with 0.94 inches of which 0.72 inches fell between 0253 and 0323. Also to note, preliminary reports of a microburst occurred at Luke Air Base with wind gusts of 69 kts recorded at 22:22 to 22:26 in the Mesowest network.
