Severe Storm Across Tucson
Mike Hardiman sent the webcam views above to me a bit ago. As luck would have it, I had things I had to do and was out driving around in Tucson. The winds were severe and the dust took visibility down to a 1/4 mile or less at times - saw a number of dust vortices - not gustnados since they were behind the leading edge. Then wall of rain came in - extremely heavy, and based on Katie's description, and the time headers on the images Mike sent, we had almost 1" of rain (0.92") within 30 minutes or less. Lots of water in our casita - big problem with adobe, and have been mopping up. Saw some large eucalyptus limbs come down when I pulled off into some shelter along Prince. Moderate-sized limb down in Country Club right at our entrance. Water was running very deep at several places along Prince, and since this is the first big rain of many months, was carrying all kinds of ugly debris and junk. Note that the third photo above is from DEQ webcam looking west toward A-Mountain (where the City's fireworks are supposed to go off tonight), showing the blowing dust.
