Brief Summary For July

Nice morning to start off August - image above shows Kitt Peak has dried out since yesterday afternoon.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Once again, although we had several outflows and a period of rumbling thunder, rainfall eluded my rain gauge. Although CAPE seemed to be up yesterday, the expected uptick in storms in the Tucson area turned into a disappointing downturn. So it seems to go this summer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday there was rainfall at only 35 of the 93 Pima County ALERT gauges - about 37% areal coverage. In the greater Tucson area there was light rainfall at only 2 of 20 gauges. Heaviest amounts were on the south and western portions of the network, where heavy storms produced more than a half inch of rain at 8 sites. No amounts yesterday reached to an inch.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Here at the house there was meaningful rain on only three days: the 4th with severe winds and 0.90"; the 7th with severe winds and 0.41"; and the 19th with 0.35". The bulk of the month's rain fell in about 90 minutes here at house. Total ended up at 1.80 inches - which is the sixth driest July for the 13 years I've kept records here. There were 19 days at the airport with highs of 100F or higher. The hottest day being the 2nd at 111F.
------------------------------------------------------------------
A very frustrating month all-in-all.
