A mostly quiet taste of Fall today - Labor Weekend Sunday 2010 - across the country. With 500 mb troughs over the Northeast and Northwest, much of the country is experiencing cool and dry and pleasant weather this morning. Humid mT air is pushed south to around 30 degrees north and clouds are confined mainly to northern Plains, where a strong low will be developing today. Here in the Southwest it will defintitely be hot at low elevations, and the sky islands will be a Holiday weekend draw. Top image is national IR satellite view; middle image is national surface observations plot; and bottom image is the SPC thunderstorm outlook for today. The projected area that could experience thunderstorms in Arizona is one of the smallest I can remember seeing on this national product - it appears to include one reporting station in Arizona - Nogales.
