Clear And Hot Again

Another hot and dry day yesterday in the Tucson area (highs last two days have been 100F). There were isolated thunderstorms in Cochise County during the afternoon again. Only weather reported at the stations I usually examine in the morning: Douglas had thunder again but no rain; Rucker RAWS station in the Chiricahuas measured 0.02" of rain. More of the same today. The top satellite image shows that clear skies prevail this morning across most of the Southwest and northern Mexico.

Off in the Atlantic, both Igor and Julia are Cat. 4 hurricanes. Closer to our area of interest, Tropical Storm Karl has just come ashore in Yucatan (middle image). The ECMWF forecasts Karl to re-strengthen briefly in the west Gulf of Mexico and then for its remnants to move across Mexico. The bottom graphic is the 120 hour ECMWF forecast from last evening. The weak vorticity maxima at 500 mb forecast to be south of the Gulf of California is the remnant of Karl. It's a reach, but something out there to keep an eye on.
