We have been down in the eastern foothills (about 5 miles northwest of Sonoita) of the Santa Rita Mountains since late yesterday afternoon. Driving south on Highway 83 yesterday there was lightning visible in the MCS down in Mexico. I think southerly outflow from that MCS moved by where we were around 11 pm to midnight. Very cloudy down there much of the morning, with the sun really only coming out after noon. The top photo shows early morning sunshine lighting the Santa Ritas and Mt. Wrightson. The middle photo shows convection bubbling down near Patagonia around 2 pm, and the bottom photo is of a building storm just south of the Santa Ritas at around the same time. As we drove north there were nice towers building on the Whetstone Mountains south of Benson and these grew into the intense storms that are now over in the Green Valley area. Note the wonderfully verdant grass over there - August out there is usually as green as if one were in Wisconsin.
