Iditarod Race Begins Tomorrow

The Iditarod is the long-haul, dog-sled race in Alaska that is quite famous and a big event for the state. However, for the second year in a row the conditions are less than desired, because of warm temperatures and below normal snowfall. Anchorage, where the race begins, has had only about a third of its normal snowfall this winter and the ground is mostly bare. This has led to a train-load of snow being hauled in, so a short, ceremonial/traditional start can be made tomorrow. Photos here show the snow train. How the racers and their dog teams will get from the train-snow on to decent mushing conditions I have no idea.
