Clear and Dry and Hot

Have been tied up with other things this morning, but there's not much to talk about. The top image shows the GPS time series of PW vs RRS sounding data for past month. Note that around the middle of August there was a flip to the sounding data being too wet rather than too dry, relative to GPS values. Somewhat difficult to deal with. The bottom satellite image shows that skies are perfectly clear over Arizona. The models tend to settle the 500 mb anticyclone almost overhead through the Holiday weekend - holding some hope for the return of a bit of thunderstorm activity. After the weekend, it appears that Fall may well be here, with continued troughiness predicted along the west coast - we'll have to wait to see if the summer thunderstorm season has indeed run its course.
