Yesterday's Bonus
The extent of yesterday's bonus, morning event was a pleasant surprise. Above view from campus was at 7:00 am MST yesterday morning. Here at the house we added 0.08". Across the ALERT network 66% of the sites measured 0.04" or more rainfall - three sites had more than half an inch with one in the Catalinas and two just northeast of the airport. We are just over half an inch here now for April, after only two tenths for most of January plus February plus March.
A cold, closed low at 500 mb will move slowly across the Four Corners Region late this week and weekend - the ECMWF 500 mb forecast below is valid at 5:00 pm MST on Saturday. So, chilly and unsettled weather will impact much of the Southwest in this period. The extent of what we might experience here in Tucson will depend upon the details of where exactly this system tracks.
