Hit And Miss Storms For Saturday
Double rainbow photo above from yesterday afternoon by neighbor John Ferner at about 5:40 pm MST and view from campus below at 5:00 pm, which shows very light showers along the foothills and north part of town. We had thunder and a Trace here, and I see that TUS and DM each had 0.01".
The ALERT rainfall map for 24-hours ending at 6:00 am this morning (above) shows 22 sites with 0.04" or more, but only one site on Redington Pass with half an inch. Plot of detected CG flashes through midnight last night (below from Atmo and Vaisala) indicates that thunderstorms mostly avoided much of metro and also the Catalinas. Most intense storm of the day hit Safford area with SPC logging three reports of large hail (these were ONLY reports for the entire country yesterday) and the Safford airport measuring 1.53 inches of rain. Graphic at bottom from the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, a blended radar and gauge product, shows the overall outcome for eastern Pima and Cochise Counties yesterday.
Warm and dry look to be the weather words for the coming week to 10 days.
