Warmy And Breezy Morning

The wind has stayed up during the night, leading to a mild, but somewhat dusty, morning. The low temperature here at the house was only 56F, compared to 36F yesterday am - a jump of 20F. The NWS official reading at the airport indicates a low themperature there of around 60F, only about 12F warmer than yesterday morning. The situation at Atmo is similar to that at the airport.
-----------------------------------------------------
Shown above - top two images - are T and Td time series for past 7 days for NWS TUS andAtmo. Dewpoints been considerably lower out at the airport. This is probably due to two things - 1) the airport site is open and mostly semi-desert kind of surface features - rock, sand, concrete, etc. This is in contrast to the Atmo site on campus where there is grass and watering, i.e., a more moist urban environment. 2) The airport is mostly open and exposed to the synoptic-scale winds; whereas, the campus environment at the surface reflects a microclimate that is sheltered by large buildings. In contrast, the Atmo anemometer up at 6 stories height, is very windy - see the wind record for the rooftop of Atmo at bottom for past 7 days. Very windy - thus, it's not surprising that dust and pollen have been blowing around here, making the past seven days really bad for allergy sufferers. Gsundheit again!
