Forty Years Ago - F4 Tornado In Omaha

Forty years ago (May 6th, 1975) an F4 tornado struck the west part of Omaha, Nebraska, moving north along and near W. 72nd for about 6 to 8 miles. As per newspaper headlines, above, there were only three deaths, even though the tornado produced significant destruction. Below shows the tornado passing just west of the Aksarben horse racing track.

I was getting out of the Air Force the next month and we were meeting with our realtor in Bellevue, Nebraska (about 10 miles southeast of the tornadic supercell). Realtor had an offer for our house and was presenting it to us, as a second supercell moved over Bellevue, dropping tennis-ball sized hail on our roof. Needless to say, details of our closing were much complicated by the damage to the house.
