Weather Miscellany Plus February Summary

Brief February summary first - rainfall here at the house totaled 0.38 inches, with measurable precipitation occurring on 4 days (the 12th, 18th, 19th, and 28th). During the past 18 Februarys there have been 10 that were drier, making this a run-of-the-mill month. Temperatures were mild, with only 4 mornings having freezing or colder lows. Coldest mornings were on the 24th and 25th when the low was 27 F each day. There were thunderstorms on one day, the 12th.  


Light showers added some rainfall at spots across the metro area yesterday afternoon - ALERT map above shows 24-hour rainfall ending at 08:30 pm MST last night. Shower here at house left 0.02". Looks like a quick warm up here in metro, with some gusty east winds developing late tomorrow into Friday.


The northwestern 2/3rds of Arizona had a decent precipitation event with amounts running from around a half to an inch and a half. Lows have fallen into single digits up in Flagstaff/Grand Canyon region this morning - surface plot above is from 06:00 am.

There was a significant outbreak of severe thunderstorms across the midwest yesterday, as the month ended. There were nearly 500 storm reports to SPC and two of the tornadoes caused fatalities in Illinois.
