Tropical Storm Simon

Tropical Storm Simon developed rapidly yesterday afternoon southwest of Cabo Corrientes - top image is IR at 12 UTC and just above is visible image at 14 UTC. Simon is the 18th named tropical storm of the eastern Pacific season. It has been a very active year, especially when compared to the Atlantic Basin, which has had very little activity.

The current NHC forecast (below) for Simon keeps it at tropical storm intensities and moves it along a path that is similar to that of Rachel. There is fairly wide spread within the global models concerning exactly where Simon might head after a couple of days, so the weather watch as the weekend approaches will be toward the south.
