Photos here from 2020 were taken on: March 18th (above); April 11th (below); July 23rd (second from bottom - the morning of the wettest day of the year); and July 26th at the bottom.
The following is a summary of notable aspects of the weather here at our house during 2020.
Rainfall total for the year amounted to 5.48 inches, more than an inch than occurred at the airport (4.17 inches - the driest year on record for Tucson). There were two months with more than an inch: July had 1.92 inches and March came in with 1.27 inches. There were four months with no measurable rainfall, and four months with less than 0.35 inches. The yearly average here for past 20 years, through 2019, has been 11.61 inches, so 2020 was an extremely dry year, consistent with our continuing severe drought.
I noted thunderstorms here on nine days, but that is probably conservative, given my severe hearing loss. There were heavy thunderstorms on July 23rd, which produced 1.76 inches of rain, making that easily the wettest day of the year. In fact, the rainfall that day amounted to 32 percent of the year's total! There was one day here with a marginally severe thunderstorm, as I estimated gusts at 50 to 60 mph.
As for temperatures, it was - as always - much colder here along the Rillito wash than it was at the airport - my temperature records are limited by my lack of accurate high temperature readings. However, the temperature at the airport indicated that 2020 was the second warmest year on record for Tucson.
But, morning lows here were at 32 F, or colder, on 36 mornings. Mornings colder that 28 F, indicating hard freezes, occurred on 12 days, with the coldest morning dropping to 19 F on February 5th.
