Nice Upturn in Storms This Afternoon

Well there has been a nice upturn in thunderstorm activity this afternoon - proving that one should never let their attention lag, as I did this morning. Two important things have transpired - higher maximum temperatures, along with increased PW, have led to increased CAPE and more storm activity. Since lower-level winds are mostly zilch, the increase in PW (see top image of GOES PW this afternoon) is mostly due to recycling and heating. The middle image shows CG lightning detections around 3 pm this afternoon - a very definite upturn in thunder and lightning - and bottom image shows latest visible staellite image indicating lots of storms back into Pima and Santa Cruz Counties. So it goes.
