Last Friday afternoon (August 10th) a lightning strike took out the KEMX (NWS TUS) radar until it was repaired the next day. The above photo, by Caryn Hill, is of that flash. The radar is located in a vulnerable spot for such hits, along the ridge of the Empire Mountains at above 5.000 ft MSL.
