Winds Have Shifted To Westerly Across Tucson

Two more views of the Catalinas for 13 March, 2014. Above was from around 8 am MST and shows the thick dust persisting. During the early to mid-morning the Catalinas were the only nearby sky islands that were visible from this part of town - even the Rincons were completely obscured by the dust in the low-levels. Below is from a bit after 3 pm this afternoon. Note the shift to west winds, as per the flag flying near left, bottom of image. So, the dust is heading back toward New Mexico, while thick middle-cloud overcast has moved into the area ahead of the weak, 500 mb short wave approaching from southern California. Radar indicates that there may be a few sprinkles just off to the east and south of Tucson. The Kitt Peak web cam indicates that the dirty skies extend out to the west of that location. All-in-all, it's been a pretty ugly day here in the Tucson area.
