First Precipitation Of 2020

Clouds over Catalinas at 5:00 pm MST yesterday, coming in from the north-northwest. This morning skies are clear here, and the San Francisco Peaks (bottom) have a cap cloud hanging over them.

Bands of very light showers moved across metro area during the early morning hours (base scan radar above from NCAR RAP is from 2:00 am today). Showers developed ahead of a sharpening 500 mb trough (12 UTC map below). One trough stretches southward from eastern Wyoming, through far eastern Arizona into Sonora, while there is second trough from southeastern New Mexico extending south past Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.

The light precipitation did produce first measurable rain of 2020 here at house - with 0.01" in the gauge this morning. The airport reported 0.02" and DM AFB and Atmo had only trace amounts. Higher amounts occurred over the Catalinas.
