Bats Have Returned

About 4 tiny bats make their home among the vigas of our front porch each summer. The bats returned early this week for about the eighth year. They are very small bats and start hunting insects in the early evening. They look much like butterflies when they are flying around - so much so, that I've always called them "butterfly bats." They are officially known as Western Pipistrelle bats, and they are now in residnece here at the house for the summer.
