The current IR satellite image shows a classic (references on request) signature associated with the severe thunderstorm in northeast Kansas - this signature is often called a "warm-wake" with the coldest storm tops forming a horse-shoe shape down-wind of the highest tops,resulting in warmer IR temperatures in the wake of the highest storm tops.
