At 500 mb the last, strong short-wave/vorticity max with the western US trof is now swinging across northern and eastern Arizona. Not a great afternoon, with mountain showers (see above look to the north from University campus), winds, dust, and blowing pollen. An allergy sufferer's nightmare. Winds generally gusting 30 to 50 mph this afternoon over all but far southwestern parts of the state. The plot above shows wind and gust speeds at the Atmo rooftop anemometer on campus. This afternoon shows up as considerably more gusty than yesterday, with gusts around 60 mph at this time. The coming week will be see a shift back toward more quiet weather as the storm track shifts well to the north, toward the Canadian border.
