Jack Hales sent above PW image and comment : Gulf of Mexico vs Pacific, an image says it all.
It is also interesting that the MCC over Iowa (yes, yet another one) seems to have built its own, very localized maximum of PW through moisture flux convergence and updrafts. The IR image and regional radar chart below are from 1315 and 1300 UTC, respectively.
