Isolated Thunderstorms On Mountains

Storm building on Catalinas mid-day yesterday - note the small pileus cloud at top of cell.

There was a large MCS last night east of central GoC too far south to have effect on southern Arizona - below is IR image from 04 UTC.

There were isolated thunderstorms yesterday - mostly on mountains (above shows detected CGs for 24-hours ending at 08 UTC today - from Atmo and Vaisala). Only 8 sites in ALERT network measured rainfall yesterdal - mostly up in the Catalinas. Amounts were light, but there was 0.67" at White Tail.

This morning the large, 500 mb anticyclone (below from SPC) is nearly overhead. The morning TWC sounding (bottom, also from SPC) is moist above 500 mb, but with almost no winds below 300 mb. The CAPE shown is an overestimate - I get just a sliver when BL is mixed to 600 mb. Looks like another day with storms mostly stuck on mountains. This is getting monotonous.
