Cold Morning Across Arizona

Clouds over the Catalinas at sunrise this morning. Down at bottom is entrance to Grand Canyon NP where temperatures this early morning are in single digits F.

Morning low temperatures: above Grand Canyon area and below for southeast Arizona (from MesoWest). Couple of warm readings down in the Canyon. Lows generally below freezing over southeast Arizona - note the 21 F low west of Tombstone. Lows around metro area were generally in the 30s F this morning; here at house it was 34 F.

Next storm system for the Southwest appears to be zeroing in on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Above is GFS forecast for surface pressures and precipitation valid at 5:00 pm MST on Christmas Eve (from 00 UTC GFS forecast run). From the same model run, below, is total precipitation now through 5:00 pm Christmas Day. Last year there were thunderstorms and general rains beginning late on Christmas Day - so nearly a repeat this year.
