Fires Yesterday Evening

Images above are from Ft. Collins, Colorado (top), and Ruidoso, New Mexico (bottom). Both are at the end of the day on Sunday, June 10th, 2012. The High Park fire (photo from my sister's back yard in west part of town) west of Ft. Collins has grown to about 40,000 acres, and the Little Bear fire northwest of Ruidoso has burned about 30,000 acres. Both fires have burned numerous structures, and there is 0% containment of either fire. Denver media reported that the High Park fire may have been started by a lightning strike around 6 am Saturday; however, regional radar does not appear to indicate any thunderstorms in the area of the fire back through Thursday the 7th.

Image below is from Art Douglas, again the time is late afternoon yesterday, and indicates 5 or 6 fires burning in northern Sonora. The fires south of Nogales have been responsible for occasional periods of smokey skies here in the Tucson area.
