Update - this morning (Thursday, 6 August) smoke is hanging on the Catalinas in the area of the Finger Rock fire - my guesstimate is that the fire grew to around 500 to 1000 acres by late in the day yesterday. Heavy cloud cover and possible showers should keep a damper on the fire today compared to yesterday.
A small wildfire is burning on the Catalinas north of here - photo taken at a bit before 3:00 pm MST. Finger Rock is off to the left of the fire. There has not been lightning in that area for several days, so it has likely been smoldering since the last lightning up there. Fire is in very rugged and exposed area and I'm assuming it is not likely to be human-caused.
Latest photo above is from just after 4:00 pm and shows that fire has grown fairly rapidly and run up a ridge toward the east - can see flames occasionally from here. Current view from campus (4:42 pm MST) below and from roof of Atmo building at bottom..
