I have had internet connectivity problems this morning and have just now been able to take a quick look at morning observations.
As expected, after the morning showers across the area yesterday, the rest of the day was VERY suppressed. I looked at ALERT rainfall from noon through midnight last night - there was absolutely none, as per illustrated by the metro west sector of the network above.
There were more early morning showers over parts of southeastern Arizona, as activity and debris cloud again moved north from Mexico. The visible satellite image above is from 9:15 am MST and shows that heaviest cloud cover this morning is off to the east, over Cochise County. More sunshine likely over much of eastern half of Pima County today, which will help.
The morning upper-air data from TWC (skewT plot below from SPC) indicate very moist and unstable conditions and towers are bubbling already over the Catalinas. The steering winds are southerly and light, but anvil level winds are stronger and from the west, so anvils will not head out directly ahead of storms. With the light steering flow, some storms will propagate toward the most unstable, nearby air and that might lead to erratic storm motions. Definite threats for heavy rains and perhaps wet downbursts this afternoon - should be an interesting weather day.
