Rain Event Likely

Pre-sunrise view this morning from Sahuarita - above. View at bottom shows traffic on I-80 early today at Evanston, Wyoming, during heavy snow.

A 500 mb short wave over northern California at 12 UTC this morning (above) will dig southeastward and carve out a strong trough over the west by 11 pm tonight (as per GFS forecast below).

The short wave will be accompanied by a nighttime rain/snow event for much of Arizona. Graphic above shows GEFS plumes forecast for QPF at the airport with rain tonight, continuing into mid-day tomorrow. The 06 UTC GFS forecast for total precipitation through 11 am MST tomorrow is shown below.

With little to no rain since the end of September, streets in the metro will become slippery and treacherous tonight - take care.
