Wildfire In New Mexico

The heat continues and the first 9 days of June have all had high temperatures (at TUS) above 100F. Two days hit 107 and three hit 105. The forecast for this week indicates little change.


At sunrise this morning high-level smoke was visible across the eastern sky. Its source may have been the


Silver fire near Kingston, New Mexico (northwest of Hatch). Two photos of the smoke plume late yesterday (9 June 2013) - top by David Cristiani and bottom by Steve Morgan. this fire was apparently started by a lightning strike on June 7th (see lightning strike map for the 7th - two posts below).
