Windy Start To Week

Large cap-cloud hanging on the Catalinas this morning.

The morning 500 mb analysis above shows western trough, which is approaching Arizona. Main impact will be gusty winds today and cooler temperatures this week.

The morning upper-air sounding (above) indicates 40 kt winds from 800 to 900 mb, and these winds will mix down to surface by mid-morning. The 10-m wind forecast below (from 06 UTC WRF-GFS) is valid at 10:00 am this morning. Current observations indicate that Ft. Huachuca is already gusting to 37 mph.

None of the current WRF forecasts indicate any chance for rain in the Tucson metro area today.
