Tropical Storm Daniel intensified to hurricane strength yesterday. Daniel apparently became a Category 3 storm briefly during the past night. This morning (Sunday, July 8th) Daniel has weakened to Category 2 status. A new tropical storm, Emilia, has developed east-southeast of Daniel.
The two storms are shown above in 5 am MST product from NHC. Both storms are forecast to remain moving generally west-northwestward, and Emilia is forecast to become a hurricane during the day today.
The IR image below shows both storms at 9 am MST this morning.
