Still Windy/Precip Event Nears

Rising sun lights up the Catalinas this morning. Winds have continued through the night, keeping temperatures up in the 50s. The 06 UTC WRF-GFS forecast of 10-m wind speeds (below) is valid at 11:00 am MST and indicates continuing gusty east winds into this afternoon.

Model forecasts are quite consistent, forecasting a nice rainfall event for the aiport Wednesday night and during day on Thursday the 10th. Plumes for QPF above are from the 06 UTC GEFS forecasts, and below (from 06 UTC WRF-GFS) is forecast for total rainfall through 6:00 am MST on Friday morning. Average amounts in the forecasts are fairly consistent and running around half an inch at the airport. If forecasts verify, this would be most rain in a single event since late July.

It is of note that the amounts of precipitation in the WRF forecast decrease very rapidly west of the metro area, so that's a bit of a wild card regarding the spatial details of the impending event.

Plumes for temperature (from SREF plumes at SPC) second below show a dramatic cool down for Thursday and Friday.
