Rainfall Across Metro

Skies were clearing this morning as a band of showers moved eastward. Visible satellite image (below - from 8:16 am MST) shows the band, with low clouds ahead of it.

Rain amounts of 0.04" and more occurred at all ALERT sites during the 24 hours ending at 8:15 am (above and below). Numerous sites had a half inch or more, with four sites exceeding three inches. Here at house there was 0.47", all falling before midnight last night. Many sites in eastern half of network had rain before and after midnight.

The 500 mb analysis (above from SPC) shows the western trough across southern California with fairly strong southwest winds over Arizona. The morning sounding (below, also from SPC) indicates a bit of CAPE below 300 mb.

With such widespread precipitation during the night, I'd expect lower elevations to be quite suppressed today. The 12 UTC WRF-RR does develop storms over far eastern Pima County around midnight. Forecast of composite radar echoes (above) is valid at 2:30 am early tomorrow.

Current NWS forecast for the airport is below.
