Heavy Storms On July 5th East And South Metro
Heavy storms hit yesterday afternoon, staying mostly northeast to south, leaving the west and northwest dry and watching the storms. Radar image in post below shows storms during the most intense part of the event. The airport reported a gust to 74 mph in a downburst. Two photos above show both the wind and heavy rain aspects of the event (photos by Mike Christy of the Arizona Daily Star).
The ALERT network had 50 of 92 sites (54%) reporting rainfall and two of the sub-areas are shown below - 24-hour rain amounts ending at 6:30 am this morning. Amounts went as follows: > 1/4 inch 27 sites; >1/2 inch 20 sites; > 1 inch 10 sites; > 2 inches 1 site. Here at house we had a brief period of anvil rain that added up to 0.03". The Rillito Wash is flowing, gently, this morning for the first time in a very long while.
